Job Description

: We are seeking a POSTDOCTORAL APPOINTEE On any given day,The candidate will be exercising mathematically based technical skills in the area of electric grid reliability and resilience, advanced optimization, statistics, probability theory, risk, and economic theory. The position requires an understanding of electric power system production, delivery, and optimization. This research area will focus on a systems approach to advancing the state of the art in generation and delivery systems, include traditional generation, renewable energy, storage, transmission and distribution, distributed systems, microgrids, controls for grid systems, and the narrow intersection of grid technologies with markets and policy. The position requires a working knowledge of power systems optimization for unit commitment, economic dispatch, and objectives and constraints related to grid reliability, resilience, and advanced concepts in grid optimization.

Required:
+ PhD in Operations Research, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field

Desired:
+ Practical experience in the areas of transmission and generation expansion and operation are highly desired. + Understanding of how policy and energy markets interact with various technologies and influence reliability and resiliency. + Experience developing with algebraic modeling languages (such as Pyomo and GAMS), solving linear, discrete and nonlinear optimization models, and building software code in Python and MATLAB. + Expected to apply optimization theory toward advanced grid concepts and design.

Department Description:

The Electric Power Systems Research Department conducts R&D and advanced analytics to enable the modernization of the nation's electric power grid. This work includes the development of improved planning and operations methodologies from the bulk system down to end users. Our capabilities encompass the development and application of advanced algorithmic and computational methods, grid operations, economics, and policy. Examples of specific core areas include power system dynamics, operational reliability, advanced renewables integration, electricity market development, smart grid technologies and related information analysis, optimal resource expansion, and computationally based decision support. This department is highly inter-disciplinary, working collaboratively with universities, utilities, government agencies, and both national and international research organizations.
