Postdoctoral Fellowship Available in Leukodystrophy Center of Excellence

Job Summary

In the laboratory of Adeline Vanderver, MD, the Research Postdoc will help develop leukodystrophy associated biomarkers and help establish novel genetic approaches for diagnosis as part of the Leukodystrophy Center of Excellence (LCE) research program. The LCE research program aims to establish pre-clinical and clinical research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of leukodystrophies. Leukodystrophies are inherited disorders of the white matter of the brain. The Myelin Disorders Bioregistry Project collects clinical data and samples to discover new genetic disorders, and develop biomarkers in the leukodystrophies, as well as establish natural history for the leukodystrophies. This will include work in next generation sequencing including whole genome sequencing and RNA sequencing, functional validation of novel genetic candidates in model systems including murine models and IPSc, biomarker development, disease specific assay development, and molecular therapy development.

S/he will utilize advanced laboratory techniques and equipment to collect, process, and analyze data. Experimental background working with next generation sequencing platforms, immunoblot, imunohistory chemistry and basic proteomic and genomic platforms is preferred. Additional responsibilities include presenting findings to internal and external collaborators and training junior lab staff and student volunteers. S/he will help develop grant applications. Finally, s/he will assist in the development of scientific manuscripts for the dissemination of knowledge in these disorders.

Job Responsibilities:
• Conduct independent scholarly research and develop new methods and protocols
• Participate in project planning, recording and evaluation of data
• Acquire technical, lab management and grant writing skills
• Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentation at national meetings
• Supervise junior lab members
• Assist with other research projects

Required Education and Experience:
• A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.
• According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing
