Position No: 5208

WestEd's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Program is committed to increasing mathematics, science, and technology literacy among our nation’s youth. The program offers services, materials, and strategies that support teachers’ professional growth in content knowledge, effective teaching practices, appropriate assessment, and evaluation. STEM covers issues from culture and language to earth science and international science education. In addition, the WestEd STEM group increases communication, public awareness, and understanding about mathematics, science, and technology education, and advances research in this area. International studies show that U.S. students rank near the bottom in science and mathematics. The STEM program seeks to reverse this trend by helping prepare teachers to meet the learning needs of all students, ensuring our nation’s future in science and mathematics education, as well as technology.

The Making Sense of SCIENCE (MSS) project, within the STEM program at WestEd, was founded on the belief that well-prepared teachers are key to students’ success. By strengthening teachers’ knowledge and skill, MSS improves student achievement, strengthens college and career readiness, and ultimately prepares students for the modern workforce. MSS has worked with thousands of classroom teachers, staff developers, teacher educators, and science educators across the country, providing tens of thousands of hours of training, and impacting hundreds of thousands of students. The MSS team has been recognized nationally for its expertise in teacher professional learning, and over the years, has partnered with numerous universities, state departments of education, informal science centers, districts, and other institutions to provide quality professional learning that has measurable impact on teachers and their students.

Position Description:
Making Sense of SCIENCE (MSS) is seeking an exceptional Professional Learning Specialist to join our team and contribute to a range of projects related to facilitating professional learning, supporting districts in NGSS implementation and STEM reform efforts, presenting at conferences, coordinating events, and elevating communication among a growing network of MSS partners. In addition, this individual may work with the Project Director and Lead Learning Architect on special assignments, such as contributing to the development of new products and services (e.g., online professional learning, pre-service, literacy), assisting with proposals and reports, managing small contracts, and other projects as needed.

If you are excited about the work that MSS does and would like to be part of a highly collaborative team, we look forward to hearing from you!
