Summary

The Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at various academic levels. Exceptionally qualified applicants with track of federally funded research will be considered for tenured Associate/Full Professor positions. We are interested in faculty with experience in translational research that is applicable to surgical treatment and that can broadly advance scientific discoveries in human health. The Department of Surgery's research mission is to create new scientific knowledge to deepen our understanding of disease development and to advance new methods and technologies that improves patient care. Key areas of research interest include cancer, cardiovascular diseases, molecular imaging, chemical analyses, biomedical engineering, medical device development, and molecular biology. Candidates are expected to contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in scientific research and education through training and research in our department, and to engage in departmental, institutional, and professional service activities.

DeBakey Department of Surgery, ranked 13th by the U.S. News & World Repo rt for departments of surgery, practice at iconic institutions within the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical center, including Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, Ben Taub Hospital, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and the Texas Children's Hospital. The Department trains over 130 residents and fellows annually, including trainees in the only NRMP-listed residency track in global surgery. Our department Office of Surgical Research comprised of over 90 research specialists manage over 80 grants and nearly 200 active clinical studies supported by over $18 million in extramural funding annually.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, biophysics, or closely related fields.
  • Strong history of federal grant support.
  • Successful track record of collaboration with clinical investigators and in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Successful track record of training students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Accomplished academic record sufficient to fulfill criteria for an associate professor or professor level faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine.
  • While not required, having portable existing funding will be beneficial.
