Summary

The Assistant Dean of Medical Education Research and Scholarship at BCM SOM will have broad responsibility for creating infrastructure to support medical education research, and for integrating scholarship into innovation and curricular aspects of medical education across the continuum.

Reporting to the Senior Dean for School of Medicine and School of Health Professions, the Assistant Dean will have support to design a system conducive of medical education research and scholarship. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in research methodology and design, have a consistent track record of scholarship in medical education research, mentorship experience with both faculty and trainees, development and teaching of medical education curriculum, and at least seven years of both UME and GME experience in medical education research, program evaluation, and quality improvement. A PhD or EdD in health sciences education/research or psychology (educational, organizational, or psychometric/quantitative) would be ideal for the position. This position will require occasional travel to Temple TX.

Job Duties

  • Lead the School of Medicine in defining medical education research priorities and strategies for scholarly engagement primarily around UME topics.
  • Collaborate with educational leaders to leverage ongoing curricular/innovation evaluations and quality improvement processes to design education research studies and disseminate findings. Identify barriers to engagement in educational research and scholarship and action plan with units/teams at BCM.
  • Identify and share scholarly dissemination opportunities with BCM faculty and trainees.
  • Serve as a mentor for faculty in the SOM and collaborate in faculty development efforts to develop medical education research and scholarship competencies.
  • Serve as a mentor for trainees on medical education research projects and develop medical education curriculum to develop associated competencies.
  • Serve as core teaching faculty and course/pathway director for the Medical Education Teaching and Scholarship (METS) pathway for medical students.
  • Conduct statistical analyses for educational research projects, as needed.
  • Oversee annual tracking and reporting of medical education scholarship/grant productivity.
  • Build relationships with medical education researchers nationally to support collaborations across institutions.
  • Collaborate on grant submissions (intramural/extramural funding) for medical education research.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD/MD/DO with academic experience as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor level for a minimum of 7 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of effective mentoring faculty/trainees on medical education scholarship across UME and GME
  • Success in building, expanding and elevating programs with vision and collaborative team spirit.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None required.
