Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a research coordinator with high personal and inter-personal abilities and high integrity who can work as part of a team and independently. The coordinator must have very good communication skills, patience, and interest in working directly with human subjects in clinical research. Proficiency in working with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability and motivation to learn other computational research tools (such as RedCap) are required.

The primary role of the Research Coordinator I is to assist in all aspects of day-to-day activities of clinical research protocols including, but not limited to screen and enroll participants, schedule research activity, ensure accurate data collection, perform data entry, maintain study documents, coordinate biospecimen acquisition, and ensure the organization and safety of study participants. The coordinator will be trained in performing quantitative sensory tests (QSTs) and is expected to work independently after the appropriate training.

Candidates will be required to provide at least two professional references.

The coordinator will be expected to work in different facilities in the medical center including the McNair clinics, Baylor St. Lukes, and Texas Children’s Hospital.

Job Duties

  • Assists in all day-to-day activities of clinical research protocols including, but not limited to screen and enroll participants, schedule research activity, ensure accurate data collection, perform data entry, maintain study documents, coordinate biospecimen acquisition, and ensure the organization and safety of study participants.
  • Participates in performing and collecting research data from quantitative sensory tests (QSTs) during the activity hours of the clinic (supervised and independently following the appropriate training).
  • Attends meetings and phone conferences regarding the study with researchers and clinicians.
  • Schedules research visits and biospecimen acquisitions.
  • Helps in biospecimen collection and transfer.
  • Collects participant information, processes documents, and enters data into databases.
  • Collects, processes, ships, and maintains paperwork as required by the research protocol.
  • Explains study process and procedures by phone or email to educate study participants, family members, and other researchers.
  • Retrieves and submits test results to appropriate party as specified in the research protocol.
  • Generates data reports to update on research feasibility and progress.
  • Maintains and organizes inventory of study supplies and equipment.
  • Orders supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Other duties as required for the study protocols as determined by the PI.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, professional, and interpersonal skills, attention to details, and be adaptable to study needs.
  • Able to communicate research needs with research nurses, lab technicians, and other research collaborators involved in the clinic activity.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in a research or clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in working with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and walk 0.5 to 1.5 miles to on campus locations in the Texas Medical Center
  • Two professional references (previous supervisors preferred)
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Familiarity with database management (ex RedCap) and electronic medical records (ex EPIC).
  • Experience with pain studies, genetics, connective tissue disorders, or implementation science.
