Job Description

Summary

The Department of Otolaryngology is looking to hire a Research Technician I to provide technical assistance to support ongoing research within Dr. Frederick's laboratory. The lab is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and self-motivated Research Technician who will be responsible for preparing and conducting basic experiments with mice, and cell line maintenance.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Grows, maintains, and manipulates cell lines in the laboratory to support and conduct experiments.
  • Performs basic experiments with mice that includes implanting tumors, measuring their growth, and administering drug treatments to mice.
  • Isolates proteins, DNA, and RNA from tissue and cell lines.
  • Performs sub-cloning and production of molecular biology DNA constructs.
  • Takes instruction from senior and supervising personnel.
  • Maintains an organized hardcopy and electronic laboratory notebook that documents experiments and results.
  • Prepares electronic figures that summarize experimental results.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Selects, evaluates, and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to perform animal experiments.
  • Experience working with mice and molecular techniques is desired.
  • Be enthusiastic, organized, and self-motivated.
