General Description / Primary Purpose
The Applications Programmer, under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs.
The Applications Programmer is responsible for developing and/or supporting computer applications in support of University business processes. Essential job functions include but are not limited to the following. Develop and maintain new and existing systems in support of University processes. Coordinate with clients, vendors and consultants to develop solutions and successful testing, documentation and support of those solutions. Investigate packaged solutions to systems, programs for problems and opportunities. Provides guidance to functional units in the development of system specifications. Interprets and works from specifications written by others. Plans and organizes work and prioritizes multiple projects. Attends department meetings as needed. Keeps current in job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Performs other related duties as assigned by higher level management. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Attends meetings of Information Technology Services staff; utilizes staff resources when situations require additional expertise. Serves on committees, task forces, and work groups that pertain to complementary applications support, as assigned by upper management.
A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.
Faculty Position Required Qualifications
Preference given to applicants who meet the required qualifications and also possess the following:
An Information Technology specific degree (e.g. Information Systems, Computer Science) that emphasized computer programming, including database management systems and SQL, may be substituted for the experience. Strong analytical combined w/functional programming ability in one or more computer languages. Working knowledge of SQL, particularly PL/SQL, and database technologies. Familiarity w/the Banner ERP System is a definite plus.
