The University of Southern Indiana invites applications for the position of Academic Advisor for the Advising Center in the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education. This is a full-time administrative position with responsibility for serving as academic advisor to and monitoring the academic progress of students majoring in disciplines in the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Serve as a liaison between the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education and its students
Serve as an initial point of contact for students interested in College program information
Evaluate records of students seeking admission into one of the College’s programs
Utilize student placement scores and academic records to advise students concerning enrollment into appropriate courses
Make decisions concerning changes to students’ class schedules
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
One to three years’ experience in academic advising or related field at the college level preferred.
Degree in closely related field preferred.
Experience with pre-professional advising preferred.
Experience working with the major/career exploration process and students at academic risk preferred.
Career Advising experience preferred.
Attentiveness to detail; strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and handle them in an efficient and timely manner is required.
Must possess strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and problem solving skills.
Ability to interact effectively with students and faculty of all cultural backgrounds and experience levels required.
Proficient use of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and e-mail required.
Knowledge of NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) Core Values, CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards) professional standards, and Federal guidelines affecting students and faculty (i.e., FERPA) preferred.
This is a 12-month, full-time position located on campus in Evansville, Indiana.
