Job Description

In this role you will lead the preparation of multi-million-dollar funding proposals on behalf of leading researchers at Argonne National Laboratory. You will partner with researchers to help them prepare compliant, responsive, and well-written proposals in response to new multi-million-dollar opportunities published by funding agencies, including Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), etc. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead proposal preparation process from end to end in collaboration with leading researchers at Argonne. 

  • Conduct detailed review of solicitations and prepare compliance matrices. 

  • Work with principal investigator to develop a win strategy, detailed proposal outline, and timeline. 

  • Lead preparation of proposal in collaboration with principal investigator and in accordance with the proposal outline and timeline. 

  • Assist with writing key sections of proposal. 

  • Work with other Argonne employees to coordinate the provision of other services, including budgets, key graphics, and technical editing. 

  • Collect and compile supporting information for proposal. 

  • Organize and conduct color team reviews. 

  • Conduct compliance review of proposals during preparation and immediately before submission. 

  • Ensure that the finished proposal is submitted before the deadline. 

Position Requirements

  • Experience with writing high-value, competitively awarded technical proposals. 

  • Track record of major funding wins with DOE or other government agencies is a strong plus. 

  • Ability to work with laboratory researchers in multiple technical disciplines. 

  • Understanding of technologies associated with major DOE program offices (e.g., EERE, VTO, AMO, etc.) is a strong plus. 

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to collect, distill, and present complex technical information in a succinct business value proposition. 

  • Ability to produce work product under tight, fixed deadlines. 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a scientific or technical field.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PA3 or PA4) depending upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position. The requirements for the desired levels are as follows:

  • PA3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4+ Years or equivalent

  • PA4 Level: Bachelor’s and 6+ Years or equivalent
