Job Description

Summary

The Department of Medicine, Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, is seeking a Part-Time Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator to join our team in supporting physicians at the BCM Medical Center (McNair) campus for our Baylor Medicine outpatient clinical practice. This position will provide patient education on a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity, and glucose testing. 

Job Duties

  • Provides formal diabetes education to patients in outpatient clinic
  • Provides diabetes education training to other clinical staff as needed
  • Provides nutritional information for weight control and disease management
  • Schedules appointments, tests, and examinations with hospital and other doctor's offices
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient's record
  • Bills for patient care services through electronic medical record
  • Instructs patient regarding diabetes self-management
  • Communicates with other health professionals regarding orders and care of patients
  • Promotes patient's independence by involving patient in defining and establishing patient care goals; teaching and counseling patient, friends, family and reinforcing their understanding of the disease, medications, and self-care skills
  • Respects and supports patient rights and promotes positive patient and family relations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Certified as a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Dietitian (RD).
  • Familiarity  with Type I Diabetes.
  • Device or Technology Certified.
