Job Description

Summary

Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development at Baylor College of Medicine (https://www.bcm.edu/departments/pediatrics/sections-divisions-centers/tropical-medicine/research/vaccine-development) is seeking a Scientific Programmer to support its software development as well as its research and development operations. We are looking for a  skilled and motivated individual with interest and expertise in programming and database management,  We expect familiarity with the MySQL Workbench,  JavaScript, PHP and HTML. 

 

The team, led by scientists with experience in vaccine development for neglected and emerging infectious diseases, is looking to recruit a Scientific Programmer . BCM is located in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center and offers a highly interactive environment and a strong infrastructure for research and career development. 

Job Duties

  • Designs, adapts, tests and debugs software applications used to store and process data.
  • Meets with team members to discuss program requirements.
  • Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs and maintains software applications and documentation.
  • Integrates the use of multiple files sharing platforms into one.
  • Configures and customizes third-party software; advises on hardware and software decisions; performs other job related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, bioinformatics or a related field.
  • Background in biological sciences; experience with processing of biological data as well as with R to perform ETL operations (Extract, Transform, and Load) and statistical analyses. 
  • Ability to work with Linux based OS using command line.
