Position Summary

Aligned with the organization core values and reputation for excellence.  This role oversees the Medical Diagnostic Center to include Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonary lab, Noninvasive Cardiology department and Neuro lab.  Assume fiscal responsibility through preparation of budget, training and development of employees. Aligns with the organizational strategic goals. Responsible for the provision of diagnostic, treatment and educational services for patients seen in the department

Key Responsibilities include:

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department.  Ongoing revisions of policies and procedures staying current with evidence-based practice. Ensure patient and staff safety.  Lead initiatives to address gaps in performance and improve outcomes for departments.  Understand the competency and requirement to maintain JC lab certification. Clear understanding of regulatory agency requirement for department. Able to work collaboratively with many other disciplines to achieve better outcomes. .  Develop, revise and implement policies and procedures for departments.  Supervises the activities of the staff in the appropriate patient care areas. Monitors quality and leads initiatives to address gaps in performance.   Ensure patient safety, participates in patient experience initiative, conduct service recovery, promotes employee engagement.  Interacts with supervisors, lead workers, technologists, nurses, clerical support staff, radiologists, and others throughout the course of the day to address and resolve the many different issues that impact the provision of services. Fosters building relationship both within department and outside department and community. Strong knowledge in the field or respiratory care and related services. Possess high degree of interpersonal skills to counsel, communicate and effectively manage a wide variety of professionals. Consults with physicians concerning treatment and schedules patients in accordance with available staff and equipment.  Oversees the maintenance of equipment and ensures adequate supply levels.

  • Human Resource functions related to hiring, assigning and monitoring staff. Oversees onboarding of new staff and competency.  Maintains competency ongoing annually for all staff in the department.
  • Holds staff accountable for their professional practice role.
  • Monitor outcomes of the department, utilizing best practice for better outcomes.
  • Responsible for reviewing benchmark data and making appropriate changes to improve sections performance
  • Evaluate and assess trends in department for productivity statistics, quality control and customer satisfaction and outcomes.
  • Appropriate staffing daily, scheduling to maximize efficiency.
  • Oversees and is responsible for all blood gas laboratory duties and reports to the laboratory director outcomes of all laboratory operations
  • Troubleshoot day to day operations, implement changes when necessary, engage staff.
  • Monitor resources related to operations of the department
  • Manage operation month to month budget and variance.  Analyze both positive and negative variance always looking more effective methods of care delivery.
  • Encourage staff education and awareness of their professional practice.
  • Attends committees and meetings related to department and position.
  • Maintains relevance by keeping up with professional journals and associations related to departments
  • Acknowledge, research, technology and equipment for department to improve health care outcomes.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to infection control measures/practices throughout hospital and in assigned units. Appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Healthcare Administration, or Science Degree or Bachelor Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT)
  • 5 years of experience in related field, including 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Education from an accredited respiratory therapy program
  • Able to be clear and concise in both verbal and writer communication and service-oriented presentation. Skill set in crucial conversation and coaching/mentoring.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • BLS through the American Heart Association

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Masters in Business Administration or related field
  • Adult Critical Care Certificate (ACCS)
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT)
  • 5 + years clinical experience in Respiratory Therapy setting.
  • 2 Years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Has some experience with EKG, and some knowledge of hemodynamics.
