Instructor PRN - Special Care Unit (SCU)

Job Summary:

• Practices medicine within the scope of authority and privileges granted by Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC).
• Provides patient care under the auspices of Moffitt Medical Group (MMG), and serves as member of the academic medical enterprise; advancing institutional mission of contributing to the cure of cancer.
• The in-house surgery physician is responsible for all night and weekend coverage of urgent and emergent surgical and critical care issues involving Moffitt patients.
• This position supports patient care and patient safety. 

• Maintains requirements for medical staff membership and clinical privileges within the Cancer Center.
• Adheres to all medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
• Functions as a member of the critical care team working with other specialists to coordinate and optimize patient care in urgent and emergent situations. 
• Provide in-house coverage of medical SCU patients.  The scope of these services shall be sufficient to arrive at a reasonable clinical impression and treatment plan to ensure patient safety and stability i.e., ordering medications to control pain, nausea, hyperglycemia, hypertension, arrhythmias, heart failure, and correct electrolyte disturbances.  These are all competencies within the scope of practice of a general internist.

• Education:
  • MD or equivalent
  • Board certified (or eligible)
  • Completion of accredited general surgery training
  • Florida Medical License
  • DEA License
  • ACLS certification
• Experience:
  • Multidisciplinary academic clinical practice setting experience, preferred
