Summary

This position (Bariatric Program Manager) is responsible for the planning and coordination of clinical and quality initiatives to improve outcomes and achieve business objectives for the Bariatric program. They oversee the ongoing development and assessment of the quality of patient care for bariatric patients while assisting with the standardization and efficiency of care for the Bariatric patient throughout the continuum of care. They manage the center of excellence accreditation criteria set by Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) compliance to ensure the program meets expectation set forth by governing agencies and will maintain and ensure compliance of all policies and procedures that guide and support the assigned services. This position will serve as the liaison between the program and The American College of Surgeons/MBSAQIP. They will also interact with all levels of the organization and collaborates with the hospital (BSLMC) and Baylor St. Luke’s Weight Loss Program for the sharing of best practices and reporting methodologies.

The candidate will provide specialized care to the bariatric patient population by effectively coordinating office activities. The goal will be to optimize patient outcomes through efficient practice management and clinical and educational expertise. In addition, candidates should contribute to the overall expansion of bariatric services and continued growth in patient volumes.

Job Duties

  • Ensures daily that clinic operations are efficient in working collaboratively with the team in Bariatric program. 2%
  • Collaborates, on an ongoing basis, with the Medical Director, clinic staff and physicians, promoting positive communication techniques and the ability to problem solve at every level. Collaborates with all members communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive of the patient care team by actively manner. 5%
  • Works with the Medical Director to anticipate and identify program needs, and recommend solutions and opportunities for improvement. 5%
  • Participates in identifying needs, planning, and implementing educational programs for patients, families and/or community groups by facilitating and participating with others. 2%
  • Provides outcome data to the Medical Director and MBS Committee as needed. Prepares the meetings, facilities, and documents minutes. Works with the bariatric team/surgeons to improve efficiency and increase volumes. 5%
  • Evaluates programs, orientation, and staff development, and identifies plans and recommendations for improvement. 5%
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in problem identification and resolution. 3%
  • Promotes and maintains program compliance of all policies and procedures that guide and support the assigned services, which include but are not limited to accreditation and regulatory agencies’ requirements/standards, federal and state regulations, MBSAQIP standards, and Centers of Excellence criteria. 5%
  • Maintains primary responsibility for, and focuses on achievement and maintenance of MBSAQIP Center of Excellence status for Bariatrics program and manages Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery’s Center of Excellence criteria to ensure clinic meets expectations set forth by governing agencies. 10%
  • Demonstrates effective teaching methods for multi-level individuals and/or groups for delivering effective personalized, patient-centered, family-focused outcomes and professional development of colleagues. 5%
  • Provides and demonstrates effective teaching methods to deliver personalized, patient-centered, family-focused outcomes to achieve successful execution of clinical and quality program leading to best practices and patient safety. 5%
  • Assists with materials, presentations, and reports on program data for senior leadership, and directors. 5%
  • Incorporates appropriate teaching and learning principles into the design and delivery of educational programs and materials. 5%
  • Contributes to and supports Bariatric program staff, and educators through planning, implementing, and evaluating educational efforts and learning methods (i.e., 1:1 coaching, classroom lectures, power point presentations, e learning, etc.). 5%
  • Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and implement accountability measures/timelines to ensure they meet clinical goals. 2%
  • Actively participates/coordinates committees, task forces, and in work groups as needed/requested. 2%
  • Serves as a resource to staff for regulatory standards to ensure our program meets expectations set forth by MBSAQIP Center of Excellence and/or governing agencies. 10%
  • Fosters identification of patient safety risks and application of practices to reduce harm. 5%
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function, and strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner. 5%
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance and use in the Bariatric program. 2%
  • Maintains patient/personnel information confidentiality. 2%
  • Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' records including but not limited to knowledge of computer applications. 1%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four years relevant experience in bariatrics specialty. 
  • Leadership and/or coordinator experience preferred. 
  • Graduate of education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) and have one of the following certificates, licenses, and registrations below: 
    • A licensed dietitian by the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) and Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Dietetic Association OR
    • Texas RN license or temporary TX RN license should obtain permanent license within 90 days. Compact license acceptable according to current Board of Nursing requirements
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Able to communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers effectively.
  • Maintains professional competencies and demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice and development.
