Job Description
Summary
The Research Tissue Support Lab in Texas Children's Cancer Center supports clinical researchers within the department as well as other researchers at the hospital. The technician performs the routine elements of research work that require the use of skills, technical competency & academic knowledge to follow established procedures and to accurately record those results. The technician meets daily with clinical research personnel to help plan their ongoing studies, coordinate sample drop-off, shipping and processing.
Job Duties
- Performs sample processing. Works on specimen banking, cell culture, and providing access to research equipment.
- Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes findings in an appropriate format for the study. Records results of experiments.
- Interacts with all research staff in a professional manner.
- Assists with advancing research that directly and indirectly impacts current and future healthcare at Texas Children's Hospital. Assists other research study staff with access to RTSS equipment and resources.
- Assists with the ordering and maintenance of the supply inventory.
- Supports the needs of the Cancer Center Bio-repository that includes freezing samples, processing samples, maintaining a very accurate inventory, and all aspects of cryo-preservation. Recovers samples from the biorepository. Conducts inventory for regulatory purposes, plan for expansion of equipment and interact with the Bio-Medical department regarding equipment issues.
- Acts as a technical supervisor and assists others in the lab with training, trouble-shooting, and development of protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
