Job Description

The Department of Human Relations in the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a Renewable Term Lecturer for its Clinical Mental Health Counseling Online program, beginning mid-Fall 2022.

Our mission for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling online program is to promote excellence in counseling through evidence-based clinical training, democratic values, advocacy, and social justice through the provision of clinical services. Of particular interest at the Department of Human Relations are candidates who are committed to making a difference in society through social change. Responsibilities include teaching masters-level counseling courses offered online. Duties will also include advising students in the online program.  

The new online program aims to reach a wide student population across the nation who are interested to in becoming Licensed Professional Counselors through an exclusively online format. The targeted online student population will be seeking a dynamic, rigorous online master program to improve their careers and livelihoods. 

The CMHC program is currently in the process of seeking accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), an independent accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation that accredits counselor preparation master's degree programs.

Course Teaching/Availability:
The teaching expectation is three (3) courses in the Fall and Spring, and three (3) courses in the Summer semesters (3:3:3). All courses will be taught in the online format through CANVAS. Travel Requirements: Some travel could be required (minimally once per quarter).

Technology Requirements:
Faculty members are required to have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor. All other tools are knowledge-based or training-based through the University of Oklahoma. The Faculty Member must be able to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat and must have reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable. The use of Canvas will be required. Training is available through the University.

Licensing/Certification:
Faculty Members must be appropriately credentialed, possess an earned degree doctoral degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country's ministry of education in the discipline being taught, and may be expected to be licensed or license-eligible in order to teach in specific programs. Faculty Members must maintain their licenses and any appropriate certifications in order to continue to teach at OU. Faculty Members are also expected to maintain current with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. If participating in research, the Faculty Member may publish and acknowledge OU though there is not an expectation of research with this hire.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Earned doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program at an accredited institution
  • Have related doctoral degrees and have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013
  • Doctoral student who will graduate from a CACREP accredited program no later than August 2022
  • Current state licensure as a mental health professional
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching and mentoring master’s level students.
  • Interest in establishing a community of mental health students.
  • Ability to provide leadership and support in program assessment.
  • Ability to assume a significant role in addressing student questions and concerns about the program.
  • Experience supervising students in their field training experience.
  • Commitment to the goals of diversity and social change.
  • Ability to work with non-traditional students.
  • Ability to participate in residencies, national faculty meetings and other work-related travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Earned doctorate from a CACREP accredited program or a seasoned doctoral level faculty member who was previously certified as a core CMHC faculty member OR Doctoral student in a CACREP program with a graduation date no later than August 2022
  2. LPC License
  3. Strong interpersonal skills
  4. Good written skills
  5. Dedication to students’ success and high standards of teaching
  6. Evidence of effective teaching skills and online communication
  7. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues
  8. Teaching online experience at least 3 years – Preferred
  9. Member of a counseling organization.
