Summary

Temporary part-time position, hours will vary; assignment may last approximately 1-3 months.  This position is not eligible for benefits.


Baylor College of Medicine's Occupational Health department is hiring a Medical Assistant to assist with administering shots for the 2022 flu immunization season.  Must be able to administer IM injections.

Job Duties

  • Draws up vaccines and administers them using safe and proper techniques and a system of double checks to ensure accuracy.
  • Completes paperwork after every injection.
  • Provides education to patients regarding vaccine indications and side effects.
  • Routinely interacts with patients while answering questions about potential side effects and other issues related to the vaccination process. 
  • Committed to ensuring optimal patient comfort.
  • Disposes of bio-hazardous waste in the appropriate and prescribed manner.

 

Physical Risks: Potential exposures to bloodborne pathogens (blood and/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Bloodborne Pathogens Training is required, and a Bloodborne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
