A TENURE TRACK POSITION IN ADVANCED MATERIALS

Clemson University's Departments of Automotive Engineering (AuE) and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) are searching for outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Potential candidate's primary appointment will be in AuE with a joint appointment in MSE. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in Automotive, Mechanical or Materials Science and Engineering or a related technical field by the time of appointment and should demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research. We desire candidates whose expertise and approach align with both the core strengths and new areas for growth of the Departments. Research areas of interest include, but not limited to: advanced materials processing, materials informatics, accelerated materials discovery, integrated approaches for materials and process innovations, as well as cross-cutting initiatives identified by the College. Clemson University is a partner of Battelle Savannah River Associates for the management and operation of the Savannah River National Laboratory and the Departments seek candidates who can leverage opportunities with the Laboratory. Joint appointments with Savannah River National Laboratory can be considered.

The Department of Automotive Engineering is a fully integrated tenure-granting graduate department within the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Science at Clemson University. The AuE department offers MS and PhD degrees in Automotive Engineering with 16 tenure and tenure-track faculty members that is in part supported by $36 million in endowments. The Department of Automotive Engineering has graduated over 700 MS and 92 PhD students since its inception in 2007, and is located on Clemson's CU-ICAR innovation campus in Greenville, South Carolina. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. With a total of 20 tenure and tenure-track faculty members, the MSE department is based on the Clemson Main Campus and has a history of faculty collaboration at multiple Clemson innovation campuses, including CU-ICAR. The CU-ICAR campus currently houses 20 companies and has interactions with over 200 industry partners, including top global manufacturers and suppliers. QUALIFICATIONS

Leading candidates should possess:

• A Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline

• A knowledge and experience base of materials related to the mobility and energy sectors with connections to industry (preferred)

• The qualities of an "entrepreneurial scholar." This means an individual who converts a vision into reality through superior strategic planning and execution skills, while leading the intellectual exploration of new methods related to advanced concepts in materials platforms and their impact in sustainable mobility and clean energy sector

• The ability to build a research program, produce scholarly publications and have a strong dedication to undergraduate and graduate level teaching
