The first position will investigate the role of Tumor necrosis receptor 2 (TNFR2) in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in a humanized HLA-DR2 transgenic mouse model and involves generating exciting new transgenic/knockout mouse models to study TNFR2 function in T cells, microglia, and astrocytes in the EAE model. The second position will investigate the therapeutic role of regulatory T cells in the EAE model using T cell receptor engineered Tregs.
Requirements: These positions will focus on mechanistic studies and exploration of the immunological pathways and processes under investigation in the respective models. Candidates are required to have a Ph.D., M.D., DDS, DVM, or equivalent. A solid understanding of basic immunology and practical experience in cell culture, multicolor flow cytometry, and experience in handling small animals is required. Expertise in working with viral vectors and expertise in next generation sequencing and single-cell analysis platform technologies is preferred but not required. Relevant training is available upon hiring. The candidates will develop skills in immunology, mouse models of neuroinflammatory disease (EAE), flow cytometry, microscopy, molecular biological techniques including single-cell RNA-sequencing. The candidate will also gain experience in manuscript and grant writing. Additional duties include training of undergraduate and graduate students, animal colony management, and presentation skills.
Salary: This position is initially for one year, which can be extended for up to two years based on satisfactory job performance. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Additional information about the Forsthuber lab can be found at: https://www.utsa.edu/stceid/labs/ThomasForsthuber/
