Duties and Responsibilities
The Center for Data Analytics is a new Center established by Maryland Legislature in 2021. It is located on the campus of Bowie State University, having an institutional relationship with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). The vision for the Center is to be an interdisciplinary hub in the State of Maryland that meets the data-driven needs of minority and disadvantaged communities through research and workforce development. The Center will pull on the success of the Data Science Analytics Initiative at Bowie State University, which shares a robust faculty community from all four Colleges – the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, and the College of Professional Studies.

Bowie State University seeks a director for its Center for Data Analytics(CDA). Candidates with fundraising experience, a multidisciplinary collaborative work ethic, and strong industry ties are encouraged to apply. The Director can come from a wide range of professional backgrounds that utilize data science and analytics.

The Director for the Center for Data Analytics will be responsible for:

· Recruiting and maintaining an exceptional faculty and administrative team;

· Attracting undergraduate and graduate student researchers;

· Building and sustaining partnerships with external units;

· Creating a local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

· Enhance BSU’s prominence as a leader in data analytics research and education across a range of rapidly evolving fields and domains while maintaining a keen focus on serving the disadvantaged communities of the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
A Master’s degree or higher in a technical field such as Decision Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering required.
Experience
A minimum of (5) five years of progressive work experience in a data role required.
A minimum of (4) four years of people management, leading and developing data and analytics teams required.
A record of exceptional fundraising experience.
Experience with data aggregation, reporting, and visualization platforms.
Experience with advanced data science modeling and techniques.
Experience and capability to manage CDA, including developing new projects and programs, mentoring junior researchers, and administration of the center.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong diverse industry network including business, technology, health, and research.
Strong entrepreneurial skills that can move forward a vision for a world-class Data Analytics Center.
Strong record in producing data-driven research.
Ability to create partnerships with a wide range of constituents in academia, industry, foundations, and government.
Possesses superior analytical and problem-solving skills, comfortable operating in an environment that requires multi-tasking, anticipation, attention to detail, prioritization and meeting tight deadlines.
Solid understanding of corporate and operational business issues as well as marketing strategy, P&L management, and budgeting.
Business savvy mindset, understanding how data services the entire business, with a track record of having deep ownership of projects and demonstrating the obsession with improvement of what is possible with data.
Excellent communication skills – ability to explain complex analyses and insights to technical and non-technical audiences, translate business questions into actionable insights.
