Salary
Salary Range: $33,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours per Week
Non-Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
Function: The College of Science seeks to fill this position of a research technician to assist with drug discovery activities relating to NaV1.7 in the Preclinical Pharmacology Core at UTSATo perform entry level professional engineering and scientific research assignments related to a particular field of work.

Scope: Responsible for evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering or scientific techniques used in routine research.

Typical:

Perform drug discovery activities relating to NaV1.7 in the Preclinical Pharmacology Core at UTSA.
Resonsible for design, synthesis, and characterization of organic compounds, and the performance of standard in vitro pharmacological assays.
Perform ninty-five (95%) research and five (5%) group duties including attending group meetings and and writing bi-weekly progress reports.
Performs professional research and engineering assignments to include performing experiments; gathering and analyzing data and samples; setting up/operating equipment; and inspects minor fabrication, erection or assembly for conformance to specifications.
Performs specified phases of research projects to include making and recording observations and measurements; compiles data; processes paperwork; maintain lab accounts; writes technical reports; and assists in the writing and editing process of grants.
Trains incoming and existing students on experimental procedures and edit students’ papers prior to submission for journals or for class.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Periodic:

Collects and organizes information for various reports.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or related field.
Demonstrated research experience in the systhesis of small molecule inhibitors of NaV1.7.
Expertise in standard sytthetic chemistry skills including NMR, LC/MS, column chromatography, and crystallization.e.
Basic engineering or scientific equipment ordinarily used in college laboratory work.
Criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced courses leading to a Master's degree in the field of assignment.
Working knowledge of drug discovery and preclinical pharmacology including ADME, formulation, and rational compound desig
At least 3 months of research experience working with the design and synthesis of small molecule inhibitors of NaV1.7.
Some knowledge of specialized research equipment.
