Job Description

Summary

The Department of Neurology is seeking a qualified Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join our Maxine Mesinger Multiple Sclerosis Clinic. This position will perform patient centric administrative/support care in an ambulatory setting.

Job Duties

  • Triages patient concerns through in-basket messages, MyChart messages, and phone calls. (20%).
  • Completes prior authorizations for specialty medications and procedures. (20%)
  • Communicates with patients and physicians regarding medication and treatment status (20%)
  • Enters orders for patient tests and obtains proper paperwork. (10%)
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments. (5%)
  • Monitors incoming faxes. (5%)
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. (as needed)
  • Manages and coordinates incoming patient referrals. (as needed)
  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service.
  • Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks and orders treatment room supplies.
  • Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D and graduated from an approved licensed practical nurse/vocational nurse (LPN/LVN).
  • Two years of relevant experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Current license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS).
