Job Summary

 

Position Highlights:

As an Insurance Navigator in the Financial Clearance Unit at the Moffitt Cancer Center you are the point of contact for insurance escalations across the organization.  You serve as a guide to help future and current patients understand their insurance benefits and present options to receive treatment at Moffitt. 

 

As an Insurance Navigator you are responsible for gathering benefits information from insurance companies and helping patients and their families with understanding their healthcare benefits to access our providers and services.  Your upbeat, professional, approachable and compassionate personality is critical as you work individually with patients, their families and health plans. 

 

Successful Insurance Navigators in the Financial Clearance Unit have excellent verbal and written communication skills and are comfortable interacting with patients and their families, physician's offices and health plans.  Insurance Navigators have the ability to prioritize, analyze, follow up and problem solve.  Successful Insurance Navigators support the unique needs of cancer patients, must remain calm under pressure and be able to diffuse tension when problems arise.  You must demonstrate sensitivity to the difficulties and challenges that patients face as they seek cancer care.  Members of the team work very collaboratively and flexible. 

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Preferred Moffitt Revenue Cycle experience in verification of insurance benefits.
  • Preferred Deep knowledge of insurance regulations, knowledge of the health care system in the US including how plans like HMOs, PPOs, Medicare and Florida Medicaid operate.
  • Soarian experience preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint, Word and Excel, etc. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as point of contact across the organization when insurance questions arise.
  • Communication with new patients enrolled in out of network health plans to explain their financial responsibility and offer alternatives available in the market to receive treatment at Moffitt.
  • Ensure all aspects of insurance approval have been met for new patients escalated to Insurance Navigator.
  • Contact established patients with new out of network insurance to provide financial options to continue care at Moffitt.
  • Regularly updates the supervisor on challenges faced with insurance companies or processes.
  • Other job-specific duties assigned by supervisor

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Healthcare, Finance or related field required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in hospital registration, insurance verification and insurance pre-certification/authorization with a healthcare provider, hospital and/or insurance company required.
  • -OR- *High School diploma with an additional two (2) years of relevant experience in insurance verification, authorization, hospital registration plus the three (3) years (for a total of 5 years) experience may be considered "in lieu" of a Associates degree.
