Position Highlights

The Clinical Informatics Nurse integrates healthcare science with multiple information and analytical sciences to define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in clinical practice. The Clinical Informatics Nurse collaborates with Moffitt healthcare providers, Moffitt team members, and other key stakeholders in their decision making to achieve positive outcomes with the use of information technology that supports the vision and mission of Moffitt Cancer Center.

The position documents workflow processes, execute gap analysis, and provides leadership andguidance to define system and process requirements that will optimize clinical workflow and patient care as it relates to the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and technology solutions. The Clinical Informatics Nurse supports the assessment, planning, design, development, and implementation of effective informatics solutions and technologies across the healthcare continuum. The Clinical Informatics Nurse is responsible for supporting, under the direction of the Clinical Informatics Leadership and ultimately the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), the client service relationship between the Cancer Center’s providers, nursing community, and ancillary associates.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Nursing Informatics Practice, ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, provides the basis for practice.

Responsibilities

  • Systematically evaluates workflow to examine current practice, and the potential impact of an informatics solution. Conducts a needs analysis to refine the issue or problem when necessary.
  • Understands application, requirements, recommendations, and best practice in the support of information technology systems.
  • Incorporates clinical practice experience, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills in support of transformational initiatives.
  • Develop test scripts with expected outcomes in mind and evaluate application changes based on expected outcomes.
  • Monitors outcome and evaluates user adoption of current and newly implemented information technology and functionality.
  • Utilize the SBAR process to plan recommendations for informatics solutions.
  • Integrates informatics principles in the design of interprofessional process to address identified situations or issues.
  • Synthesizes data, information, and knowledge and communicates recommendations to enhance workflow and effect change.
  • Utilizes current evidence-based nursing knowledge, including research findings, to guide practice.
  • Credentials and Experience

    • Bachelors Degree in Nursing, must hold active nursing license
    • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse and a minimum two (2) years experience in a Clinical Analyst or Informatics position.
    • Required: Verifiable Electronic Health Record (“EHR”) training, support, and/or implementation experience. Previous experience training and supporting clinicians, preferably with clinical information systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with and facilitate multidisciplinary clinician groups as part of a clinical information system support.
    • Excellent understanding of departmental/clinical operations, providers, nursing and ancillary workflows and terminology.
    • Demonstrated leadership, shows high interest in systems improvement, (computerized or human process), strong analytical and problem-solving skills; willing to work at a detailed level; good written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively understand physician and nursing requirements and identify technology and process-based solutions. Able to balance customer focus while supporting EHR initiatives.
