Job Description
Leads and manages a critical area as a first level manager, responsible for experimental operations within the Experimental Operations and Facilities (EOF) Division, often involving unique safety hazards. Serves as lead in developing, managing, and providing technical leadership to project engineers and technicians in various experimental areas in NTNS and across the laboratory. Requires careful coordination and integration across various experimental areas. Interfaces with principal investigators, research program managers, and other research staff to plan, prioritize, and execute work safely and efficiently. Requires in-depth knowledge of the trends of the research directorate to anticipate future needs of the work center. Has fiscal responsibility for the work center, ensuring all costs are fully recovered through services sold to research programs. This position plays a significant role in the overall success of the division and future growth potential. Leads a group of approximately 10 exempt and non-exempt employees.
Responsibilities
Supervises and assigns work to the operations staff supporting research projects
Interfaces with customers to understand research needs and plan work
Manages work center budget using a full cost recovery model
Drafts or reviews operating procedures and work control documents for work to be performed in experimental areas
Provides oversight for any complex or high hazard work evolutions in experimental areas
Carries out supervisory and administrative activities (e.g., training, timecards, performance evaluations, etc.)
Position Requirements
Knowledge and experience managing operations that support multiple stakeholders
Knowledge and experience with radiological facilities
Knowledge and experience in the application of Laboratory safety policies and procedures
Knowledge and understanding of the planning and execution of experimental work
Experience managing projects. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus
Extensive oral and written communication skills
Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships with others
Organizational skills
Ability to interpret technical documents
Skills in work-related use of computers
Knowledge of DOE, OHSA, NEC, NFPA, and NEPA regulations
