Position Summary

Provides quality patient care and family training through evaluation, treatment planning, and the application and assignment of occupational therapy modalities and procedures in accordance with the regulations governing the practice of occupational therapy and in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the City of Hope National Medical Center

Key Responsibilities include:

Patient Assessment And Treatment:

  • Screens patients to determine need for intervention and initiates referrals as appropriate.
  • Evaluates patients and interprets data using entry level skills.
  • Entry level skills defined as: the ability to formulate effective treatment plans based on knowledge/skills obtained in school and through internships.
  • Demonstrates entry level skills in developing treatment goals and plans based on evaluation
  • data, rehabilitation potential, discharge plans, and in coordination with goals and plans of patient, family and other care team members.
  • Demonstrates entry level skill and creativity in implementing patient treatment programs which are safe, effective, and efficient.

Communication:

  • Collaborates with physician and other healthcare professionals to ensure ongoing integrated patient care.
  • Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patient and caregivers.
  • Attends team and family conferences; interprets pertinent findings and contributes to the development of a multidisciplinary plan of care.

Leadership:

  • Assigns treatments to occupational therapy aides and occupational therapist assistants.
  • Assesses quality of care provided.
  • Pursues professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure, and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field; provides education to staff following attendance at seminars, workshops conferences.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Continually contributes the department’s/hospital’s survey readiness.
  • Participation in case conferences and discharge planning activities
  • Coordination with a CCS case manager for referral to a CCS-paneled provider or CCS MTU for the patient who may continue to require occupational therapy services after hospital discharge.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
  • Entry level position, No experience required, only preferred. Prefer acute care internship experience.

Req. Certification/Licensure:

  • Current Occupational Therapist license in the State of California, or licensed applicant status in the state of California.
  • BLS (through American Heart Association)Certification
  • For pediatric service, CCS Panel provider or complete application within 60 days of hire or when hours attained.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in practicing managed care and with other third party payor regulations preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Pay Rate: $51.89/hour
  • As a condition of employment, City of Hope requires staff to comply with all state and federal vaccination mandates.
  • Per Diem

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $37.00 - $57.35 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
