Job Description

Postdoctoral appointment within the Low-Energy Nuclear Physics Research Group (LER) of the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory. LER performs world-leading research in nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental symmetries and nuclear data as well as managing and operating world-class detector systems as part of the ATLAS accelerator facility, a DOE supported national user facility for low-energy nuclear physics research. ATLAS has recently been upgraded and provides world-unique rare isotope beams from either the CARIBU (Californium Rare Ion Breeder Upgrade) source or our new in-flight production facility. In addition, members of the group are also planning experimental programs at the Facility for Rare Isotopes (FRIB).

The position is for 2 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 years depending on funding and performance.

Position Requirements

  • Recently received Ph.D. in nuclear physics or related discipline within the last 3 years of experience or equivalent

  • Experience at conceiving and executing experimental research projects and reporting the results

  • Strong background in the area of nuclear structure, nuclear reactions, nuclear astrophysics or fundamental symmetries

  • Experience with computer programming and data analysis.
