Job Description

We are looking for a post-doctoral appointee to perform research and development (R&D) in parallel and distributed systems, high-performance computing techniques (HPC), and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) techniques. In this role you will collaborate with scientists from Data Science and Learning Division (DSL) and X-ray Science Division (XSD) to address performance issues with large-scale x-ray image analysis problems. You will work with state-of-the-art high-end computing resources and supercomputers, including Argonne Leadership Computing Facility's Polaris and Aurora, to solve exciting imaging problems relevant to Advanced Photon Source.

In this role you can expect to:

  • Conduct research and development aligned with Argonne’s strategic missions in computation.
  • Conduct work in HPC, parallel and distributed systems, and computational imaging sciences using large-scale high-end compute resources.
  • Promotes findings through publications, presentations, program reports, software dissemination, and other means of reporting outcomes.
  • Contributes to the discovery and technological advances in HPC, AI/ML, and image processing, with emphasis on the applications of exascale computers.
  • Strengthens career path opportunities by applying new techniques, developing independent research capabilities, and building professional skills such as communication, networking, and leadership.

Position Requirements

Required skills:

  • Recent or soon-to-be-completed Ph.D. (typically within the last 0-3 years) with expertise in computer science/engineering, computational imaging, or related field
  • Experience in high-performance computing, parallel and distributed programming OR in AI/ML model development

Preferred skills:

  • Experience related to GPGPU programming, I/O architectures, and/or performance evaluation and tuning
  • Good written, and communication skills
