Job Description
Summary
The Pediatric Neurosurgery department at Baylor College of Medicine / Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a professional nurse who will deliver pediatric patient care in the ambulatory care setting. This position will assist physicians and advanced practice providers with treatment room examination and procedures, schedule tests and appointments, answer patient calls and messages and schedule surgeries. Neuroscience related experience as registered nurse is preferred but we are willing to train as needed. This position will be 100% in clinic located in the Texas Medical Center.
Job Duties
- This position will spend approximately 40% of time in clinic supporting surgeons and APPs, 30% of time answering phone triage calls for urgent patients, and 30% of the time at the desk.
- Time at the desk will be spent answering patient messages, patient phone calls, scheduling and coordinating appointments, and scheduling and coordinating surgeries.
- Time in clinic will be spent supporting the providers: assisting with exams, patient education, scheduling patient follow-up appointments and imaging.
- Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and a positive patient experience.
- Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
- Exemplifies team player mentality with the ability to withstand daily work stressors.
- Participates in the orientation of new clinical staff.
- Participates in departmental meetings as scheduled.
- Communicates effectively and in accordance with BCM requirements.
- Practices nursing with high respect for individual, cultural, spiritual, and economic differences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN).
- Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Nursing neuroscience experience.
- Pediatric experience.
- Triage experience (ER and ICU).
