Job Description

Summary

A Research Technician II position is open in the Britton laboratory in the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology. The technician will perform research into how the human microbiome impacts health and disease. Primary responsibility of this position is to care for experimental rodent models.  Additional responsibilities may include conducting behavioral experiments, measurement of biological markers of disease, and/or isolation and culturing of microbes. The technician will become well-trained in state of the art techniques for studying host: microbiome interactions. 100% effort will be devoted to research. Have flexibility in work schedule to occasionally work evenings or weekends.

Job Duties

  • Works on animal Husbandry and colony management.
  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Contributes to laboratory and project meetings.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in animal care.
  • Attention to detail
  • Has analytical thinking/problem solving skills.
  • Be able to follow established procedures and properly record results; have excellent interpersonal skills, 
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills. Be able to work alone and as part of highly collaborative teams.
