Summary

Provides direct leadership to staff of the NM radiology department at the various locations at Michigan Health. This person will also provide support the NM cardiology and NM therapies and theranostics program. Assists department head in managing daily clinical operations of the department. Supervises subordinate staff members. Identifies needs in program planning and facilitates program development. May take radiographs. Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the department head. Conducts appraisal reviews with assigned employees. This Classification requires registration, certification or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification Matrix. Employees in this classification supervise three or more full-time equivalent employees every week. Direction is over a permanent status-continuing function, not a collection of employees assigned to complete a project. Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting their rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary. Management responsibilities include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight. Employees may spend time performing many of the same duties as subordinate employees. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.

Responsibilities*

Job Function/Duties:

Meeting with clinical manager for strategy planning, state of the department, current events, project collaboration, and training. Provide support and input for operational practices, budgeting, staffing and scheduling.

Manage and coordinate activities among satellite units, UH, PET, CVC, MH, BCSC, to optimize throughput and staffing levels. Participate in the selection and hiring of new technologists including the interviewing process and administrative duties involved. Orientation and on-boarding of new techs and EP’s

Meeting and engaging with staff (Checking in, one on one visits, listening to concerns or coaching if needed) for employee evaluations including the preparation of Valuations.

Direct and indirect patient care- includes direct patient care for the most technically demanding imaging and processing as delegated by manager, first injections of the day, any carry over from the previous night, in cases of unusual procedures that are done very infrequently, difficult veins, when staffing is shorthanded, or when patients request to speak with supervisors for service recovery.

Indirect patient care includes triaging and adding on inpatients and ED patients onto our schedule. Contacting nurses and MDs for protocol clarification and patient status updates. Interacting with the reading room physicians to facilitate any of their needs regarding scans or patients. Data processing, archiving, camera quality control, trouble shooting.

Staff assignments such as personal MLearning, Sterile compounding competencies, keeping up on MiChart changes and enhancements, sending emails to staff with any policy or procedural changes, updates, FYI’s, safety information, reminders, and requests. Investigating any safety events that happen and responding.

Meetings- staff meetings and protocol review, operational meetings, leadership, planning, and safety.

Represent the division in the absence of the clinical manager. Attend conferences and workshops for leadership and professional development.

Payroll, timekeeping, sign-in sheet verification and any disciplinary documentation and counseling, vacation scheduling, tech scheduling, Media fill class scheduling, BLS scheduling.

Partner with non-patient customers to develop care coordination plans and implement workflows of shared services between department/units.

Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies and oversee our divisions plan to ensure compliance and overall state of safety.

Required Qualifications*

Associate degree in a related health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
Registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Association for Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board is necessary.
5 years overall technologist experience.
