Job Description

Job Overview
The Grillo Lab (www.grillolabuc.com) is seeking candidates to join our vibrant team in a full-time position as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Research in the Grillo Lab focuses on the molecular understanding of how genetic, age-related, or environmental-induced mitochondrial dysfunction alters micronutrient metabolism in neurologic disease. Our research at the interface of biochemistry, metabolism, and physiology employs multiple in vitro and in vivo models to investigate the basic biochemistry and molecular mechanisms of age-progressive neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. tauopathies) and inborn errors of metabolism (e.g. branched chain amino acid deficiencies).

Candidates with a strong background in mitochondrial metabolism, biochemistry, cell biology, aging, oxidative stress, kinase signaling, or metal biology in neurodegenerative diseases are especially encouraged to apply. The postdoctoral scientist will perform laboratory experiments on an independent project under the supervision of Dr. Grillo while assisting other laboratory personnel. The position is immediately available, although timing can be flexible.
Essential Functions
Perform research experiments on an independent project and record data under the mentorship of Dr. Grillo.
Troubleshoot experimental protocols, organize complex data, and analyze/interpret results within the context of the research project.
Read, analyze, evaluate, and critique primary research.
Actively mentor, help, and/or train junior laboratory personnel to enhance their career development.
Establish and manage collaborations between diverse research laboratories.
Effectively communicate experimental hypotheses, protocols, analyses, results, and project details in one-on-one or group meetings, journal clubs, conferences, etc.
Actively participate in the writing of research papers, grants, and other documents.
Attend scientific conferences, meetings, and workshops to enhance the career development of the candidate.
Apply for extramural funding and training opportunities.
Perform related duties based on laboratory needs. This job description may change as the research project progresses.
Required Education
Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, physiology, or other health-related disciplines at the time of appointment.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Strong record of research accomplishments and peer-reviewed publications.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills through previous publications and conference presentations.
Presentations of scientific results at national meetings.
Expertise in mitochondrial metabolism, hypoxia, proteinopathies, and/or metals in age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
Experience working with mouse models of human disease.
Experience in isolating primary neurons, developing iPSC-derived neurons, cell culture, and aseptic technique.
Application Process
Applicants should upload the following materials:
Cover Letter
CV
May add up to three relevant publications
Confidential letter(s) of recommendation may be sent to Dr. Grillo ([email protected]) from recommender(s). A maximum of three will be accepted, though fewer is acceptable.
