Position Description
We are seeking an organized, dependable Laboratory Manager to join the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Harvey at Harvard Medical School. The Harvey lab performs neurobiology research to understand brain function underlying spatial navigation and decision-making. The lab studies these topics in mice using virtual reality, microscopy, electrophysiology, and computational modeling, along with other methods. The Lab Manager will hold an integral role within the lab to support NIH-funded projects, including directing day-to-day activities for these projects, serving as a liaison between the lab and external partners, and interacting with a vibrant team of researchers. We are seeking candidates who excel at organization, communication, team building, problem-solving, and attention to detail. The successful candidate will be interested in developing and implementing new ideas for lab organization and team building for a group of lab members from a wide variety of backgrounds. The primary responsibilities will be focused on facilitating the research goals for all the projects in the lab by fostering an operationally seamless environment to carry out research and improving the outcomes of the lab’s research projects. These responsibilities include training, supervising, and onboarding lab members; maintenance of project reagents, databases, and equipment; writing and maintaining protocols for animal use and lab safety; communication with vendors, contractors, and partner labs; ordering supplies; potential to manage financial activities such as monitoring project budgets; maintaining the lab website and computer resources; organizing and executing lab community/engagement activities and events. The successful candidate will bring new ideas to create and establish systems for management, communication, and interactions in the lab. If desired, in addition, the Lab Manager will have opportunities to participate in research efforts.


The Lab Manager is expected to work on-site in the lab on a daily basis. Previous experience working in a research lab or as a lab manager is preferred.
Basic Qualifications
Three or more years related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree preferred; Excellent skills in organization, communication, team-building, problem-solving, and attention to detail.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.

Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
