The Information Technology Department at Harvard Medical School serves as a key contributor to enable the mission by delivering secure and scalable services. 
 

The Information Technology department at Harvard Medical School is looking for a Lead Application Developer to help architect, develop and sustain applications and solutions to support a variety of business functions and to integrate disparate workloads. This position offers a significant breadth of technology landscape to thrive in, ranging from traditional on-prem systems and solutions to contemporary cloud solutions. The Lead Application Developer will work collaboratively with all departments within HMS IT, Harvard University IT, and with Harvard Medical School mission areas. 


CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate fully in software development life cycle 
  • Lead development of technical solutions to deliver business requirements 
  • Participate in long-term strategic planning for the application portfolio(s) 
  • Establish and maintain internal/external stakeholder relationships 
  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies, and Code of Conduct
  • Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of seven years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • 5+ years of combined experience with .NET, C#, SQL, JavaScript, PowerShell
  • Design, Develop, and support web applications, APIs, batch processes
  • Responsible for full-stack development
  • Work in an agile environment and contribute to the agile ceremonies
  • Provide advanced technical support, troubleshooting. Document standard operating procedures for customer service group.
  • Lead architecture and design of solutions in a matrixed organization
  • Adhere to secure coding practices
  • A strong conceptual and practical understanding of Azure cloud service offerings (Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory)
  • Hands-on experience with APIs & protocols as a producer and consumer
  • Experience with multiple programming languages (.NET, C#, PowerShell, VB.NET, Python, JavaScript, SQL)
  • Solid understanding of cloud service provider offerings (AWS & Azure)
  • Experience working in agile environment
  • Experience with ServiceNow
  • Experience with database design
  • Experience with code reviews
  • Experience communicating technical issues to IT leadership
  • Experience GitHub and git workflows
  • B.A./B.S. Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field is preferred
  • Certifications in cloud computing technologies would be highly desirable
  • Solid verbal and written communications skills
Additional Information
This position will be based in Boston. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you will begin your work remotely. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). The fully remote nature of this job is only temporary. Once the University and your supervisor determine that it is appropriate, in-person on- campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment. This department actively supports some remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and team needs allow. Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
