Summary

Temporary position, the assignment may last approximately 3 months.  This position is not eligible for benefits.  


The section of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is seeking a competent and reliable Medical Assistant II to be a part of the GIM group to support our clinicians in providing services to patients. This person will have primarily MAII responsibilities (performing routine patient care i.e. rooming/vitals) and scheduling for GIM providers. This position will assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician. Main responsibilities include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, manual blood pressure, weight, and height), and recording information on the electronic patient chart using EPIC. Shifts will include 7:30-4:30; 8:00-5:00; 8:30-5:30; 9:00-6:00 Monday - Friday.

 

The Medical Assistant, under the supervision of the Clinic Nurse Supervisor (and practice providers), is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. Candidate must possess a proactive, team-oriented attitude.  Performs selected nursing and administrative duties using the principles of the team-based care of a patient-centered medical home, chronic care management models, and quality improvement.  This position's responsibility is to contribute to a patient-centric and customer-focused environment where the needs of the patients come first.

Job Duties

Serve as Medical Assistant, including, but not limited to:

  • Perform routine patient care responsibilities ex. rooming and vital signs.
  • Document the primary complaint/reason for the visit.
  • Collect patient social history, enter/reconcile medications into patient's chart, and update patient's pharmacy.
  • Fulfill clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include: scanning patient medical records; obtaining outside labs/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information; completing forms/requisitions as needed during the visit. 
  • Perform clinic procedures, for example, point of care influenza, Strep, pregnancy, HemoglobinA1c test, urine dipstick, 12-Lead EKG, Ear irrigation, administer immunizations/medications (Intramuscular injections), provide nebulizer treatment, set up Pap Smear tray, assist provider with wound care, and, PPD placement.
  • Maintain refrigerator temperature log.
  • Stock exam rooms with needed supplies and forms. Make a list of clinic supplies, immunization, and medication needed before using the last stock. 
  • Responsible for handling patient calls, refill requests, refill responses, MyChart refill requests, patient MyChart messages, Result notes, Staff messages, and, letters.
  • Work with providers on extended clinic hours and assigned to cover clinic during lunchtime.
  • Transport patient to the Emergency Center when it's needed.
  • Give handover report to staff when leaving early for the day.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA). New employees who are not currently certified, must obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant.
