City of Hope Medical Group is seeking a Program Director for its ACGME Accredited Hematology & Medical Oncology Fellowship Program suburban Los Angeles.

The Program Director, in partnershipwith the City of Hope Graduate Medical Education (GME), will be responsible in creating an environment of professionalism and patient safety for its trainees and faculty. The program director will be a role model and advocate for its program while upholding the values and pillars of City of Hope National Medical Center. The Program Director is responsible for delivery of education and skill-building opportunities in the program for fellows to achieve certification in Hematology & Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. The Program Director develops, conducts, and oversees the fellowship program in accordance with requirements of City of Hope’s Graduate Medical Education Committee and the ACGME Hematology & Medical Oncology-Internal Medicine Residency Review Committee. The Program director will also provide the fellows and core faculty mentorship and guidance with goals and objectives and to maintain program accreditation.

In the role of the Program Director, the position reports directly to City of Hope Designated Institutional Official. The Program Director will also receive a Faculty Appointment at City of Hope. This position includes the ACGME requires a 30% Fellowship Administration Time.

The fellowship program is approved for 12 fellows (4 per PGY year 4, 5 and 6) and will be graduating its first class in June 2023. The fellowship has just finished its second ACGME Site visit.

Position Requirements:

  • MD/DO
  • Hematology or Oncology Board Certification required
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring Physicians in Training
  • Mentoring experience with Junior Faculty
  • Prior experience as a Program Director or Associate Director in an ACGME accredited Hematology & Medical Oncology Fellowship preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years as an active faculty member in an Internal Medicine or Hematology Oncology fellowship *The residency/fellowship must be currently ACGME accredited or in a “continued” ACGME accreditation status
  • Eligibility for unrestricted CA state license
  • Strong administrative and team building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with publications and scholarly activity preferred

Position Benefits:

  • Generous salary and potential for sign-on bonus
    • Pay range: $400k - $500k *The salary range listed is exclusively for base compensation for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual compensation will be adjusted for experience, training, hospital/community need and other factors.
  • Paid Vacation and Sick Time
  • City of Hope adds 20% of salary to your retirement account (NOT a match—you don’t contribute a penny) each year; up to a maximum of $61,000
  • Relocation assistance available on a case-by case basis

Qualifications:

  • Must include subspecialty expertise and qualifications acceptable to Review Committee.
  • The program director must have administrative experience and at least three years of participation as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited internal medicine residency or hematology or medical oncology fellowship.
  • Must include current certification in the subspecialty for which they are the program director by the American Board ofInternal Medicine (ABIM)or by the American Osteopathic Board ofInternal Medicine (AOBIM), or subspecialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee.
  • The Review Committee only accepts current ABIM or AOBIM certification in hematology or medical oncology.
  • If the program director has ABIM or AOBIM certification in only one of the subspecialties, a faculty member certified by the ABIM or AOBIM in the other subspecialty must be appointed Associate Program Director, be responsible for the educational program in that second area and assist the program director with the administrative and clinical oversight of the program.
