Job Description

Position Description
The Bender lab at Harvard Medical School is seeking a Research Assistant. The research focus is on the homeotic gene complexes, which control the differentiation of the different arthropod body segments. Using molecular genetic approaches, we hope to find the molecular mechanism that dictates the gene order on the chromosome, which mirrors the anterior-posterior body axis, and to describe the changes in the chromatin structure of these genes in different segments. The model systems the lab works with are fruit flies and flour beetles. Responsibilities will include the performance of nucleic acid molecular biology techniques, construction and analysis of classical genetic crosses, and maintenance of stocks and lab supplies. Prior experience with molecular biology lab work is needed, experience with Drosophila genetics would be an asset.

Basic Qualifications
  • College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline.
  • At least one year of related work experience (relevant coursework may count towards experience).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s in science preferred, demonstration of independence in prior work in molecular biology or Drosophila genetics projects.
