The Coordinator EMS assists with the coordination and implementation of EMS education programs. You will work to improve coordination of EMS services and provide continuing education for pre-hospital providers and other healthcare professionals. The Coordinator Outreach EMS promotes Cleveland Clinic Akron General as a tertiary referral center by maintaining and growing relationships with referring agencies, EMS agencies, and community members throughout the region.

- Is ACLS and PALS certified.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the EMS Medical Director; monitors and verifies continuing education hours for EMS providers as required by the state.
- Plan and conduct specialized EMS training courses for certification and recertification of EMS providers and nursing.
- Improves EMS skills by providing continued educational development opportunities.
- Formats, implements, coordinates, distributes new or revised protocols and other education materials.
- Develops and maintains communications with EMS and community leaders through various methods including newsletter, bulletin boards, direct mailings, advisory councils, and personal interaction.
- Meets regularly with EMS leaders and participates in EMS sponsored activities to build relationships.
- Collaborates with Medical Director and emergency physicians to develop, implement and monitor quality standards of care for pre-hospital care providers.
- Conducts run reviews and assists with license certification documentation.
- Assists in maintaining EMS equipment in a clean and working order.
- Collaborates to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing program designed to increase EMS ambulance deliveries and collaborate with EMS Medical Director to coordinate/operationalize Emergency Department Disaster Preparedness Plan.
- Establishes and maintains a comprehensive database of all activities related to the delivery of pre-hospital care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- State Certified Paramedic with current Ohio certification. Must obtain state certification as an EMS Instructor within one year of hire.
- Registered nurse preferred for some positions.
- An understanding of community politics and the relationship to EMS and the hospital.
- Current knowledge of regulatory and other legal issues that preside over health care and EMS is necessary.
Certifications:
- State Certified Paramedic with current Ohio certification. Must obtain state certification as an EMS Instructor within one year of hire.
- Must have certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire.
- Prefer already employed EMT, EMT/ paramedic fireman "embedded" in an EMS squad in the Community.
Complexity of Work:
- Requires strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong delegation, planning, organizational and teaching skills also required.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
Work Experience:
- The position requires a minimum of five years of emergency/or EMS pre-hospital care experience.
- Three years experience as an EMS instructor required for some positions.
- Leadership or supervisory and teaching experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- A high degree of dexterity to produce documents on a PC.
- Normal or corrected vision, hearing and speech.
- Extensive sitting, standing and walking, occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
