As a Trauma Registrar, you will be responsible for abstracting and coding medical record data on trauma patients according to guidelines established by the American College of Surgeons, Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), the State of Ohio Trauma Registry, and the regional trauma system. The registrar performs all data collection, abstraction, and entry of all trauma patients into the trauma registry. The registrar assigns ICD-9/ICD-10, ISS, AIS, E-Codes, and Trauma Scores. This role requires someone who can multitask in a fast-paced department.
The ideal candidate is someone who:
-Has a strong background in anatomy and medical terminology.
-Work well with others.
-Has ICD-10 and AID coding experience.
-Can work independently.
-Has knowledge of Epic and TraumaBase.

- Identification of patient records for entry into the trauma registry
- Collect, abstract, and accurately enter trauma patient information in the trauma registry in a timely manner
- Complete final entry of patient data no later than 60 days post discharge
- Participate in data validation
- Assist in the preparation for American College of Surgeons Level I trauma center verification
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- Associate degree in Health Care preferred or equivalent work experience of at least two years.
Certifications:
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) preferred or within 1 year of employment.
Complexity of Work:
- Knowledge of data integrity and analysis.
Work Experience:
- Previous trauma registry experience including knowledge in Trauma Registry methodology, case abstracting, data entry, ICD-9 coding. AIS/ISS, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is recommended. Medical terminology and anatomy. AIS/ISS coding course preferred or within 1 year of employment.
