Job Description
Cleveland Clinic is offering a $5,000 sign on bonus (external new hires).
Diploma and transcripts must be provided prior to interviewing. Education will be verified. Education outside of the USA requires diploma & transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from a reputable agency.
Resolves and directs employee's work activities to solve day-to-day operational issues in the absence of the supervisor. Performs and documents quality assurance activities. Recommends quality and workflow process improvement. Participates in the introduction, investigation and implementation of new procedures and the evaluation of new instruments and equipment to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Acts as a liaison between all department work groups to improve operational procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Effectively solves technical problems, serves as a technical resource for the laboratory testing personnel, supervisors and staff.
- Demonstrates good judgment in resolving daily technical problems; develops and offers solutions to daily technical problems and consults with Medical Director/supervisor as appropriate.
- Advises technical personnel of known technical nuances/pitfalls and procedural changes.
- Shares knowledge with other laboratory testing personnel and conducts training on testing details/nuances.
- Assists with coordinating technical quality assurance and quality control.
- Recognizes quality control problems and develops solutions, monitors and signs off on scheduled quality control review.
- Maintains awareness of and ensures compliance with various regulatory guidelines, including CAP, JCAHO, AABB, FDA, CLIA, HIPAA, OIG and OSHA.
- Assists with regulatory inspections and coordinates the resolution of technical deficiencies. Monitors and ensures adherence to quality control measures.
- Participates in decisions involving quality control programs, continuing quality improvement programs (quality assurance) and the quality monitoring computer/statistical data and database functions.
- Performs routine histology rotations daily.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Requires candidate to have ASCP (American Society Clinical Pathology) certification in the field of histology as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
- Associate's Degree in an Allied Heath Field can substitute for one year experience.
Certifications:
- Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) ASCP (American Society Clinical Pathology) required.
Complexity of Work:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
- Histotechnologist (HTL) candidates need at least three years of work related experience in a histology laboratory.
- Histotechnician (HT) candidates need at least five years of work related experience in a histology laboratory.
- Associate's Degree in an Allied Heath Field can substitute for one year experience.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
