As an Electroencephalography (EEG) Technologist Trainee, you will receive training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic examinations and/or epilepsy monitoring at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. While working alongside and learning from some of Cleveland Clinic’s best caregivers, you will work toward becoming a non-registered EEG technologist after one year of training with the expectation of becoming a registered EEG technologist afterwards. Then, you will have the opportunity to take more registry exams allowing you to further your career.

Responsibilities:

  • Applies suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions and selecting appropriate montages.
  • Calibrates and adjusts equipment.
  • Observes patients with video and digital recording equipment; ensures EEG and tape are lined up exactly; checks focus, lighting and microphone.
  • Abstracts relevant patient information from clinical record and obtains additional information by questioning.
  • Applies electrodes, respiration monitors and EKG.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of physical and biological sciences normally attained through high school course work with emphasis in those areas.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within one month of hire.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic ever changing environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum six months direct patient care experience.
  • One year post-secondary education may substitute for experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients, i.e., pushing beds, carts, and wheelchairs.
  • Ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
