As a Botanical Pharmaceuticals Experimental Scientist, you will be applying your knowledge of analytical chemistry to the identification, detection and rigorous quantification of organic compounds in plant material, plant-derived mixtures and other biological matrices, to perform extractions of plant material and develop formulations of plant-derived bioactives. You will contribute to scientific projects focused on new technologies used in the development of commercial botanical products and assist in the compliance activities associated with the operation of a secure facility.
We are open to either recent graduates willing to learn new skills and methods or experienced chemical analysts who would enjoy following existing experimental methods and developing new ones.
Your duties will include:
- Under limited supervision performing chemical analyses.
- Qualitatively and quantitatively analysing plant extracts and plant-derived mixtures using chromatographic techniques, such as HPLC, GC, LCMS and GCMS.
- Formulating botanical mixtures and isolated phytochemicals into various drug formats.
- Accurately recording experimental procedures and data in electronic laboratory notebooks in a timely fashion.
- Following CSIRO’s existing SOPs related to the handling of restricted substances and contributing to the revision and drafting of new SOPs.

Salary: AU$68k – AU$86k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- A Bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent, majoring in natural products chemistry, formulation science or related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability in the techniques of analytical chemistry and a sound theoretical knowledge of analytical chemistry.
- Demonstrated practical experience in chromatographic analytical techniques, such as HPLC, GC, LCMS and GCMS.
- Demonstrated skills in accurate and thorough record-keeping.
