Job Description

Summary

The Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant II to join our General Neurology team. This position will primarily provide administrative/support responsibilities in an ambulatory setting and provide routine patient care in the ambulatory setting as needed. The member will participate as part of our general neurology team, helping to care for our patients.

Job Duties

  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Manages in-basket messages.
  • Manages and coordinates incoming patient referrals. 
  • Enters orders for patient tests and obtains proper paperwork. 
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. 
  • Take inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed. (As needed)
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs. 
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician.
  • Administers medication under direction / order of a supervising Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, or NRMA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a Neurology would be ideal.
  • Prior Authorization experience would also be very beneficial.
