Position Highlights:

The Perioperative Educator represents and supports the mission, philosophy and goals of Moffitt Cancer Center and seeks innovative ways to achieve education program goals. This position seeks and integrates current knowledge of oncology nursing and principles of adult learning into education.

The Perioperative Educator utilizes systematic educational planning principles, solid instructional design methods, and emerging technologies for the creation of relevant programs, materials, methods, and media to communicate information and implements monitoring and assessment measures to determine effectiveness. This individual designs high quality education programs and materials for diverse audiences across Perioperative practices with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.

Under the direction of the Director of Perioperative Services, this role will provide orientation and education for all levels of nursing and non-nursing staff members within Perioperative Services, including, but not limited to: PACU, Preop Holding.

Collaborates with leadership and management team to assess learning needs.

The Ideal Candidate

• The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education, Public Health or related field, preferred
  • Three years of relevant Prep/Recovery/Operating room Nursing experience
  • Knowledge in educational needs assessment
  • Knowledge of education planning processes, various communication methods/new media, program development and evaluation
  • Previous teaching and/or leadership experience preferred

Responsibilities:

• Conducts assessment of educational needs; identify priorities and plans accordingly.
• Plans and implements educational programs utilizing principles of adult learning and varied teaching strategies.
• Evaluates and revises educational programs; recommends changes in the education profess based on evaluative finds and accreditation/regulatory standards.
• Ensures effective and efficient coordination of education programs and materials/media; promotes multidisciplinary participation in education process.
• Leads groups to achieve department and Center goals; i.e. improvement initiates, educational endeavors, committees and task forces.
• Serves as capacity of expert resource utilizing advances oncology nursing knowledge and skills

Credentials and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution
• ACLS
• BLS
• Three (3) years of relevant Prep/Recovery/Operating room nursing experience
