Summary

The Section of General Internal Medicine is seeking a Quality Nurse for our hospitalist program at CHI St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital. The Quality Nurse directs clinical performance and quality operations and is responsible and accountable for driving performance and quality improvement in the Hospitalist program.  The Quality Nurse is a valued team member in partnership with the following: Hospitalist Medical Director, CMO of the hospital, as well as local and regional leadership. The ideal candidate will be able to translate a strategic vision for the program into an operational plan to drive performance improvement.

 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively as needed to meet deadlines.  Is highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.  Exhibits a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
 

Job Duties

  • Leads the on-site hospital operations and is responsible and accountable for driving performance improvement in the Hospitalist program.
  • Strategically helps medical director create patient assignment processes to achieve desired goals of excellence.
  • Manages clinical documentation and billing query compliance among and between Hospitalist providers and clinical documentation specialists, holding providers accountable for completion.
  • Provides input for the schedule creation and management together with the Medical Director and Clinical Operations Manager.
  • Represents and coordinates the Hospitalist group in all aspects of job duties; maintains and coordinates communication between Hospitalists, facility leaders, nursing departments, and other departments as appropriate. 
  • Analyzes core metrics such as length of stay and discharge data to propose and implement strategies and process to improve performance to metrics.
  • Reviews census reports and provides analysis and feedback to leadership.
  • Facilitates daily Hospitalist staffing concerns and collaborates with business coordinator to ensure safe staffing for hospital volume and acuity.
  • Assists with quality improvement plan development, review, revision, and implementation in collaboration with the Medical Director and/or CMO. Coordinates the process of monitoring, measuring, and assessing patient care and support of systems to achieve high quality, safe, cost-effective healthcare services.
  • Assists with evaluating provider involvement in incident investigations, including root cause, “near miss” and sentinel event analysis. Collaborates with facility quality department and/or leadership to assist with action plan creation and follow up.
  • Escalates concerns regarding patient care, provider behavior, and/or facility processes to the appropriate leaders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Five years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), with a minimum of three years of experience in process improvement.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field.
