Job DescriptionThe Bosco laboratory at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center has an open position for a post-doctoral fellow. Our laboratory is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative. We are located in the state-of-the-art Albert Sherman Center for translational science at the University Campus in Worcester, MA. Our research focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration, with a focus on impaired stress response in models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) (www.boscolab.com).
The candidate should have a PhD in the biological sciences and extensive experience working with mice. The open project entails in vivo (mouse) work, cutting-edge fluorescence microscopy analyses including 2-photon and confocal microscopy, and deep sequencing. The candidate will need to demonstrate proficiency in animal (mouse) husbandry (breeding, genotyping, maintaining their own mouse colony), tissue sectioning, histological staining and imaging of tissue slices. Prior experience with neuroscience and mouse neuroanatomy is advantageous. Post-doctoral fellows are encouraged to secure their own funding and to write their own manuscripts, and will be mentored by the PI in grant-writing. The fellow will be trained to operate various fluorescence microscopes for their studies, and will receive guidance and support for RNA-sequencing analyses (if needed).
