Job Description

Develop machine learning framework to emulate multiphase flowfields using High-Performance Computing (HPC) tools. Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations of canonical and application-specific multiphase flows. Import framework on leadership class supercomputing resources, and identify and improve the bottlenecks in scaling the emulation framework. Use emulator to accelerate two-phase flow predictions.

The successful candidate’s research will involve synergistic collaborations with a multidisciplinary team involving multiphase flow modelers and computational scientists to enhance the predictive capability of multi-scale and multi-physics codes.

Position Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in mechanical/aerospace engineering, computer/data science, applied mathematics, chemical engineering, or a related discipline.  

 

A successful candidate will have the following:

  • Knowledge of deep learning (in TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.) for regression tasks, management and analysis of big data, and parallel scientific computing is required.
  • Understanding of multiphase flow physics is desired.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation of three-dimensional two-phase and/or multiphase flow applications using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes (e.g. CONVERGE, OpenFoam, etc.).
  • Knowledge of large scientific code management and optimization is desirable.
  • Collaborative skills, including the ability to work well with other divisions, laboratories, and universities.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaborative research.
