Job Description

The Applied Materials Division (AMD) at Argonne National Laboratory conducts applied research to develop sustainable innovative technologies to improve the efficiency of resource and energy utilization; to minimize our dependence on imported energy; and to enhance our national security.

A Postdoctoral Appointment is now open for a candidate in lithium-ion battery recycling.  The candidate will possess a good understanding of batteries and processes to make and recycle them.  Research related to material separations and other recycling unit operations is the focus of the appointment with other aspects of recycling likely to be included.  Familiarity with electrochemistry and analytical techniques used to characterize electrode materials such as ICP, XRD, SEM, and TGA is important.  

  • Ph.D. Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Electrochemistry
  • Experience in planning, designing and implementing experiments
  • Knowledge of processing and analyzing results
  • Knowledge of materials separation equipment and techniques
  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory environment
  • Experience in material separations and recycling
  • Understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistries and production methods
  • Understanding in lithium-ion battery science
  • Ability to work well within a team as well as on his/her own
  • Good oral and written communication and presentation with peers, colleagues, etc.
