Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the X-ray Sciences Division at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will lead the effort within a team of scientists with diverse backgrounds to develop next-generation hard X-ray focusing optics using state-of-the-art nanofabrication techniques and testing facilities. The work involves planning the corresponding R&D activities, operating and using fabrication tools, investigating and implementing relevant solutions, and documenting relevant results in the appropriate forms.

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or other related fields.
  • Knowledge and skills in nanofabrication techniques such as, for example, but not limited to, thin-film deposition, focused ion beam milling, and lithography.

Desired:

  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following techniques will be highly beneficial: basic electronics, data acquisition, control systems programming and automation (EPICS and python), basic optics, wave optics simulation and modeling, surface measurement techniques using laboratory tools such as SEM, AFM, and others.
  • Ability and interest in learning new skills needed for the project included those listed above such as X-ray optics and application at syncrotron radiation beamlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
